Minnesota Learning Innovations Council Projects
Council Annual Report
The Minnesota Learning Innovations Council is currently developing the following projects:
- Academic Tools - project to enable sharing of academic tools (LibData and Assignment Calculator) that have been developed by the U of M to reduce the cost of developing similar tools by MnSCU
- Accessing Rural Health via Interprofessiona Education - an initiative that will improve career opportunities for prospective and current healthcare students in outstate Minnesota
- Alcohol and College Life Initiative - statewide initiative that promotes a course that educates college freshmen about alcohol use
- Alcohol Course Research Addendum - To cover costs of expansion and evaluation of the Alcohol and College Life Initiative project for the 2006-2007 academic year.
- Artful Online Learning 2008- partnership to retrofit existing arts professional development learning objects for a P-16 audience and disseminate this work through the Minnesota Digital Commons
- CAS (Course Applicability System) - allows students to shop the acceptability and applicability of their transfer credits among all participating education institutions
- CAS Request Import Interface & eTranscript Application - enables student MnCAS (Minnesota Course Applicability System) users to create a portfolio of previously taken coursework
- CAS Server-Secure Socket Layer - Adding this security to the MnCAS server adds another layer of protection for users of the mncas.org website.
- Critical Language Project - provides online access to Chinese, Russian, and Arabic languages to K-12 students
- Critical Language Project Phase 2- 2008
- Cross-Institutional Transformational Leadership Research Project - creates cooperative relationships in higher education to meet diverse challenges
- e-Archive Project (Teaching Archive) - an initiative that develops a repository of shared intellectual property (college courses, workshop and training materials)
- Eats, Sleeps and Exercises MSUM & UMTC - develops a web-based course working model to identify health issue programs related to freshman/sophomore students
- e-Learning Games & Simulations Workshop 2007- introductory level workshop to promote games and simulations as an engaging education tool for 21st century learners
- e-Learning Summit for 2005 - a Minnesota statewide conference that will highlight best practices in e-learning
- Expanding Online College in High School - Launching the expansion involves creating awareness and developing interest in districts outside of the currently served NW area of Minnesota.
- First Year Seminar for Parents - a project that will help parents support their children as they confront various issues in their freshman year at college
- First Year Seminar for Parents Student Finances- assists students with money management during college years
- Gaming and Simulation Studies & Training Certificate Program - increase awareness of benefits and challenges of gaming and simulations
- Leadership Minor - offers an opportunity for students to learn about leadership and citizenship as a key part of their academic training, especially as they prepare for the workplace and meaningful public work
- Learner Assessment - explores learner style and preference assessments as a way to effective teaching and learning
- Learning Technology Platform Evaluation/Metrics - determines common metrics/best practices for online learning courses and technologies
- LOREC Project Management site
- LOREC Teaching Archive Addendum -expands the Teaching Archive project and develop pilot projects that demonstrate sharing and reuse of learning objects
- MnCAS Posters & Pocket Guides - promotional/outreach effort focusing on individuals who have earned college credit as a high school student
- Online College in High School - develops a program for high school students to access and successfully complete online college classes and earn concurrent credit
- Online Instructional Internship Program - pilot will offer experience to intern-teachers interested in learning about effective online teaching techniques by asisting high school students enrolled in online courses
- Portfolio - integrates use of eFolio Minnesota and the University of Minnesota portfolio systems
- SPEEDE - a statewide initiative to develop electronic transfer of transcript data for students eliminating unnecessary paperwork/manpower
- Second Life - WSU pilot for teaching and learning in a virtual world.
- Technology Literacy Initiative - develop a baseline plan for a statewide literacy standard
- The Minnesota Digital Learning Plan - a strategic plan to keep Minnesota at the forefront of digital learning
- 21st Century Literacies - align/builds curriculum to Information Literacy and Technology standards for students
- Web-based Clearinghouse of K-12 Minnesota Online Courses and Programs - This project will build an online education section for ISEEK and create a database tool that enables users to search for certified K-12 online courses and programs.
The Minnesota Learning Innovations Council also supports education and student services innovation on ISEEK; promotes the use of electronic transfer of transcript data, based on the Speede MnTransfer model; supports collaboration between Minnesota electronic porfolio applications; and researches ways to offer online courses.
